Alternative Treatment for Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s is a very unfortunate disease. People find that dealing with someone else who has the illness is extremely heartbreaking. It can be frustrating to deal with expensive western facility treatments that may not even work. And while they have been proven to help many patients, they are just not helping it in this case, for whichever reason. So it is time to find a new way. This is where alternative treatment comes in, and yes, there are alternative treatments specifically for Alzheimer’s disease. While most doctors may say that alternative medicine does not cure the disease, every case is different. Some claim that the effects of the disease where extremely minimalized.

Herbal Remedies

The most effective alternative way to treating those with Alzheimer’s disease is with the intake of foods that have been proven to help the conditions of those who endure other mental illnesses. These foods include coral calcium, ginkgo biloba, tramiprosate, Omega-3 fatty acids, coenzyme Q10, Huperzine A, and phosphatidylserine.

Caprylic acid found in coconut oil is a fat bond, specifically a triglyceride. When taken in the body, the body breaks down this bond into what is known as ketone bodies. These bodies are substances that derive from the acid and have been seen to provide an alternative source of energy for the cells of the brain. When one has Alzheimer’s the brain’s ability to use glucose is lost, and so this acid can be particularly important. If a steady flow of glucose, or an alternative energy, is supplied to the brain, then the brain can further function, slowing deterioration by a large amount. Another substance that can be used is something called Ketsyn. Once used, patients were found to perform much better on memory tests. They functioned better overall, as well.

As mentioned above, omega-3 fatty acids are also pretty powerful for Alzheimer’s. Not only do omega-3 fatty acids help with brain function, but they have also been linked to a reduced risk of both stroke and heart disease. The most complicatedly named phosphatidylserine is a fat, which is actually a primary component of the nerve cell surrounding membrane. By taking in this fat, those who have Alzheimer’s disease will find their nerve cells to be functioning more smoothly.

Aromatherapy

Those who have Alzheimer’s can become quite disoriented in the later stages. While this will not solve the disease, this practice will calm the person who has it and less likely to act out violently. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help calm and relax people. It can be applied topically, burned in an oil burner to product a calming smell, or put into a bath. All methods are very relaxing and shall ease the ill person.

If you are the loved one of a person with Alzheimer’s, remember that patience is key. If the disease comes to a point where their memory is quite lost, try to remember them for what they were, and remember that they love you very much, even if they do not know it themselves.Dealing this disease is most difficult for this reason. Just realize that everything will be okay in the end.
